color combos, pt. 1
Making color combinations for words is time consuming. So many tiny steps to figuring out how to change things and find the names of the colors. It's taken more time than I feel that I have right now. I have learned one thing about myself through the process - my mind defaults to analogous color schemes because they work best to my eye. I also question on some of these combinations as to whether they should be classified as 'analogous' or 'monochromatic.' Monochromatic wasn't a class example, but it's on Kuler, making me question what to put for some of these combinations. Oh well. Here's some screen shots of working through making final combinations
Triangles are nice, right? I liked the hierarchy of using triangles to create the combinations of colors. The 30%-10% colors act as support for the 60% color, and I liked the visual that was achieved through the triangles.

These are the words I thought of while brainstorming about each color. Honestly, it was a lot more difficult to think of things than I thought it would be. Not a lot came to mind, and the same words often came up for various colors.

library books
I ended up picking the Little Book of Letter Press by Charlotte Rivers. I think what attracted me to this book initially was its cover - the big, bold type that made up the title fascinates me. I've always enjoyed words set in all caps, so this was a natural attraction. I would also say that the idea of letter press helped in my choosing of this book. I find the process of making very interesting. Printing of, say a yearbook, on a company's giant press is fascinating, but printing in letter press, where you set the type or plates and actually use your hands, that is awesome and mind-blowing to me. While reading, I learned that while letter press is an old art form, there have still been advancements and steps forward in the process, namely photopolymer plates. I think that things like this will help propel the art forward and keep it fresh, despite the small change from the original process.
These images are from a page in the book about Hammerpress, a company based here in KC. I just like them.
