photo and image midterm review
I'm going to go ahead and write similar things to what I've said before. I think that I'm doing fine/well/okay - whatever word you might want to use - in the class. I understand what we're doing and such. I think what I struggle with is the pushing of ideas. I don't take ideas further very well, I think because I am hesitant to get messy or screw up. I want things to be tidy and perfect and pushing ideas don't always work out that way. However, I think I would benefit from trying to break that tendency and be more willing to mess up.

viscom midterm paragraph
I feel as though I'm doing fine. You know, we've done Visual Order and the branding of our classmates and I don't really know how to gauge myself on those. I completed the assignments and met the requirements. That's the basics. I would say that overall, I could give myself the same kind of assessment that I gave myself for Type. I think I struggle with taking ideas further, and exploring unconventionality. I like things to be orderly and neat and perfect and don't always allow myself to explore the chaos or potential of messing up or being a little messy.
also, I posted this late and I apologize for that. That's definitely my bad.

book covers, photographic concepts
Three stories - The Immortal, The Zahir, The Wait
Nine themes - Immortality, Fear, Copy; Obsession, Materialism, Love; Resignation, Time, Escape27 photos conveying theme concepts.
Initially, there was some difficulty in thought and figuring out different ways to convey some of these themes. How do you show obsession through photograph without it involving money? (money was and is the first thing I associate with obsession) With that, I found that I utilized similar shots for different themes. With some further in-class brainstorming, some of the concepts for themes have seen new ideas come up.
With that, I thought the photos were due on Monday. So, I have 27 possible photos already. Here they are-
The Immortal
Fear
Nothing is new
Immortality
The Wait
Love
Materiality
Obsession
The Zahir
Resignation
Time
Escape
So, yeah. I enjoyed taking pictures. A lot of these were found while just walking through the Westport/West Plaza area, close to where I live. A good number were also set up and taken at my house. It's nice to enjoy working with a camera again and play with manual focus. My prior camera experience was photojournalistic, so I leaned heavily on auto-focus for obvious reasons. Manual focus is fun to play around with. It's like a whole new world!

this metaphor project
Photos of sketches for this project. They're a little wonky at the moment. I'll clean them up and edit this post. I just wanted you to see that they were done.

jorge luis borges
I picked Borges. I really enjoyed the three stories I read -
The Immortal
Immortality, fear, originality
The Zahir
Obsessiong, materialism, love
(worship)
The Wait
Resignation, time, escape
(consequence)
All wonderful stories. I think I'm going to invest in one of his actual collections for my own personal reading.

letterpress
these are just a few shots of some of the test prints Larry and I did Saturday night. I think we, like many others, had issues with printing. It seemed pretty standard to get angry and yell at the press.
So yellow.
