type tests

These are four different versions of my motion type piece. My quote is "Design makes our lives more efficient, informed, comfortable, productive, beautiful, enjoyable, sustainable... and possible." - Ruth Listner, AIGA

The first two videos are done in the original idea I had on my storyboard - a scrolling list that finishes with the entire quote on the screen to be read as a whole. There are two versions: one with the type all set in the same weight, the second with weight variation depending on the words.

The last two videos are an idea that came from my storyboard critique with McKenzie. It alters the way the text is read and what the viewer interacts with first.

old posters

I forgot to put these on the blog. These were my original posters for the first critique. The first two are both rational, depicting information and the route.

The third one was what I made for emotional. It struggled. I think it failed to really capture what a train ride was like, and rather drew some imagery that didn't effectively capture the experience of taking the trip out west from Chicago to the northwest.

New posters for today. The rational deals with information about the trip. The emotional is based on imagery seen on the trip itself. It is a wilderness journey, full of trees and cross the mountains. I interpreted my triangles as being representations of both the trees as well as mountains. While it's not the actual route, the line splitting the large triangle is meant to represent a train track - a journey from one place to another.

signifiers sketching

These are my signifier sketches. They reflect different ways to create the health and food symbol in youthful and natural ways. I experimented with different mark making tools often associated with children picture making. I also utilized actual children and asked them to recreate the symbol however they wanted. Those are shown in the last two images in this post. Following critique, I am making a slight change to this symbol and reevaluating my other two symbols so that I can finish the project. I think that I will go with the youthful direction, likely using chalk as my final medium.
