rhetoric definitions

personification - giving inorganic objects human like characteristics

hyperbole - an extreme exaggeration

pun - joke like; similar images, words, or meanings are intentionally confused

antithesis - an object is created using contrasting ideas to what it actually represents

irony - what is happening is unexpected or the opposite of what you anticipate happening

metonomy - using a simplified meaning to stand for a more complex idea, based on association

synecdoche - a part represents the whole, or vice versa

metaphor - two contrasting objects or things are compared, often with a relationship between their attributes

parody - joke like; often seen as making fun of in a satirical, ironic, or just humorous way
