ethos, pathos, logos

ethos - an ethical appeal; through credibility of the author, they are able to convince the reader using respect and reputation, potentially unrelated to the topic
pathos - an emotional appeal; persuasion by appealing to a readers emotions
logos - a logical appeal; using reasoning to persuade the reader
extrinsic ethos - an authors reputation is known ahead of time, positively persuading a reader
intrinsic ethos - an authors text creates an impression that reflects the author's character
