color harmonies + relationship manipulators

The final slides for our Keynote-

So many reshoots. And photo edits. And repositioning. And color finding. The amount of work that goes into a five minute presentation is extraordinary. I've been aware of this fact for awhile, but I thought I'd just blog about it for a second. Also, relationship manipulators are not the easiest to convey with books. I think deep depth of field and perspective were the hardest to get a shot of, because of how similar it looks to a shot set up without one of the relationship manipulators. Juxtaposition also isn't the most obvious, but all three of them are there.

color harmonies

I chose books as my theme for this project. The spines and covers of books are where I created my color harmonies.

This was the first time I used my camera. I have used a DSLR camera before, shooting for my high school yearbook, but it's been a few years. I feel like I'm getting back into the swing of things, using it again. I might try a reshoot later on some of the combinations, attempting to get better results out of it.
Nonetheless, it was fun to shoot again. I missed it.

color palettes

Finaled color palettes for class. These were fun.

All three pictures were taken by me at some point. I picked the Pantone colors in Illustrator to start out, creating the boxes and placing the photo. I copied and pasted everything into an InDesign document to finish out the palettes. I find it easier to make things in InDesign and you still have the capabilities of changing the output to RGB or CMYK just like how we were shown in Illustrator.

color combos, pt. 2

Here are the final color combinations, in Pantone, RGB, and CMYK.

color combos, pt. 1

Making color combinations for words is time consuming. So many tiny steps to figuring out how to change things and find the names of the colors. It's taken more time than I feel that I have right now. I have learned one thing about myself through the process - my mind defaults to analogous color schemes because they work best to my eye. I also question on some of these combinations as to whether they should be classified as 'analogous' or 'monochromatic.' Monochromatic wasn't a class example, but it's on Kuler, making me question what to put for some of these combinations. Oh well. Here's some screen shots of working through making final combinations

Triangles are nice, right? I liked the hierarchy of using triangles to create the combinations of colors. The 30%-10% colors act as support for the 60% color, and I liked the visual that was achieved through the triangles.
